COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's new state farmers market near Columbia is gearing up for business following several months of delay.

Vendors begin setting up their locations Monday in the first phase of the market on U.S. 321 in Lexington County.

The current farmers market across from the University of South Carolina football stadium will remain open through Oct. 29 when the new market will open for customers.

The Agriculture Department says the first phase includes farmers' sheds, an administration building and the department's lab and consumer services facility.

The market was supposed to open last spring but suffered construction and financing delays.
