COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The City of Columbia Water Works has issued a boil water advisory for Columbia residents.

The advisory affects water customers along Monticello Road from Duke Avenue to Heyward Brockington Road, and all areas West of Monticello Road to the Broad River.

That includes Blue Ridge Terrace, Crane Forest, Yorkshire Farms, Denny Terrace, Ridgewood, Haskell Heights, Pine Forest, Barony Woods, Eau Claire, Columbia International, and Ben Lippen Schools in the affected area.

Water customers should boil water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking. Also, any ice made from water that hasn't been boiled shouldn't be used.

City officials say a water main break near Monticello Road is responsible for the problem. Crews are working to repair the problem.

Questions concerning healthcare facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities should be directed to the SC DHEC Division of Health Licensing at 545-4370.

Residents can also call the City of Columbia Water Works at 781-2181or 733-8336.
