Lexington (WACH) -- A week-long fire safety camp wrapped up Thursday in Lexington County.

Kids learned fire exit strategies and how smoke detectors work.  They also got a behind the scenes look at emergency response crews during the event put on by the Edventure Children's Museum and South Carolina Fire Marshalls.

"This is the age group where little minds start to be a little more curious," explains Tony Signorino of Lexington County.  "This is the target that we wanted this week and we have hopefully prevented fires by putting on this camp."

Every child at the camp took home a smoke detector with a ten year battery life.
