Tropical Storm Colin headed toward Bermuda

MIAMI (AP) — Authorities have closed beaches across Bermuda, warning of high winds and dangerous surf as Tropical Storm Colin swirls over the Atlantic toward the British territory.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said Friday the center of the storm is about 335 miles (540 kilometers) south-southwest of Bermuda and has begun moving north around 7 mph (11 kph). Its maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 kph).

A tropical storm warning was issued for Bermuda. Colin's center is expected to pass near or over the British territory on Saturday. Some strengthening is forecast Friday night and Saturday.

A tropical depression is swirling off the Pacific coast of southwestern Mexico with top sustained winds near 35 mph (55 kph).
