CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina State Ports Authority and environmentalists are ending a legal battle over a new port terminal in North Charleston.

Officials of the Coastal Conservation League and the ports authority on Friday announced they have reached a settlement to the lawsuit.

The case went to the state Supreme Court as the conservation league argued port officials allowed diesel air pollution in violation of health standards.

The agreement includes a promise by the ports to monitor and reduce air pollution and to seek a regional solution for rail service in the Charleston area.

The ports also will push to update the trucks calling at shipping terminals with a goal of replacing 85 percent of the trucks built before 1994.
