COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Move over Jaden Smith, there's a real-life karate kid here in Columbia.
Thirteen-year-old Christian Scott is a middle schooler who's making quite a name for himself on the Taekwondo circuit.
Scott says it's a way of life for him.
"Taekwondo makes you achieve more than you think you can," he explains.
Christian enrolled in his first Taekwondo class in 2005, and since then the medals have been stacking up. The medals come from competitions all over the country.
But things weren't always so easy for Christian.
As a baby, doctors diagnosed him with a muscular disorder.
"I really didn't think he was going to walk," says Christian's mother Pamela. "He didn't walk until he was three."
These days, Christian's not only walking, but he has sparred his way to five AAU National gold medals.
"Christian is one of the ones who supersede our expectations," says Master Tracy Goodwin, Christian's instructor.
According to Goodwin, it's not just about the fighting.
What we give these kids is a combo of martial arts, and we make sure we link it to everyday life," Goodwin adds.
But Taekwondo isn't the only interest in Christian's life.
"I do band, marching band and track," he says.
He's the only middle schooler who plays in the Spring Valley Marching Band.
But at the end of the day, he says Taekwondo is his future.
Christian one day wants to make it to the Olympics and after that, the student would eventually like to become the teacher.
