NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina city may take a gamble on casino boats.

North Charleston City Council members are planning to go to Savannah, Ga., on Thursday to take a scheduled ride on a boat operated by Diamond Casino.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that Mayor Keith Summey is considering letting casino boats sail from his city to bring in additional money.

South Carolina has one casino boat that leaves Little River, sailing several miles into international waters where the state's ban on gambling doesn't apply.

The casino cruise will be a scheduled council meeting. Members would have to approve before gambling boats could dock in North Charleston, and several have said any casino vessel would need to bring in at least $1 million a year to be worth any hassles.
