CLINTON (AP) -- A state legislator has won the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett.
Rep. Jeff Duncan of Laurens defeated political newcomer Richard Cash in Tuesday's GOP primary runoff in the 3rd District. He will face FedEx pilot and former Air Force Capt. Jane Dyer in November.
Duncan is a four-term lawmaker known for sponsoring bills that are pro gun rights and anti-illegal immigration. He celebrated the win at a hunting preserve in Clinton. The 44-year-old real estate broker and auctioneer was endorsed by Washington-based Club for Growth.
Cash criticized the out-of-state money. Cash owns a fleet of ice cream trucks and a used car dealership.
It was a come-from-behind win for Duncan. Cash had a lead of less than 2,000 votes in the six-way primary.
