COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A suspect involved in a Columbia bank robbery is responsible for a getaway car crash sending five to the hospital.
According to Columbia Police, they’ve arrested a suspect whom they say robbed the First Citizens Bank on Rosewood Drive Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect, a black male, then left the scene, assaulted an elderly woman and stole her car fleeing eastbound.
Blocks away, the suspect collided with four vehicles at the intersection of Rosewood and South Kilbourne. One of those vehicles was a Department of Public Safety vehicle.
The investigation has been handed over the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Several other agencies responded including the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
According to CPD Spokesman Brick Lewis, the case would normally go to the Highway Patrol, but since one of their vehicles was involved, the investigation will be conducted by Lexington officials.
Four victims along with the suspect have been transported to local hospitals.
The suspect has not yet been identified and charges are pending.
