COLUMBIA (AP) -- Officials say turnout in South Carolina's primary runoff elections has been light so far as voters pick GOP nominees in four statewide races.

State Election Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire says Tuesday's turnout is low overall but has been moderate in counties with competitive local races.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close 12 hours later.

Among Tuesday's top races are Republican runoff elections for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and education superintendent.

Voters who voted in either party's June 8 primary can participate in that party's runoff. And people who didn't vote in either primary can vote in the Democrat or the Republican runoff.

There are no statewide Democratic runoffs, but five areas have countywide runoffs.
