COLUMBIA (WACH) -- GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, State Treasure-Elect Curtis Loftis and Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom talked about possible changes to the Budget and Control Board at a joint press conference on the State House grounds Thursday.
The three say shifting the board under the authority of the governor would essentially give the people power.
"I think that there's a sense all across the state that government needs to improve," Eckstrom said Thursday.
"That's what we'd really like to see, is have the board moved under the governor's control," Loftis explains. "That way when the people are voting for the governor, they're voting for how they want the board to be run."
"Having the fact that the people are going to be very involved in their government, I love that," Haley says.
If the voters elect Haley as their next governor, the three say they will hit the ground running to help turn around the state's budget.
Haley faces Gresham Barrett in a June 22 runoff.
