After months of campaigning--that has taken a negative turn at times--voters had the final say. 

"I felt like I needed to cast my vote today to make a difference," said Carl Dennis.

After years of not voting, Dennis says he's taking a different path.  The Richland County resident says he's casting his ballot, due to a growing list of concerns.

"Of course it's healthcare, and I want to make this beautiful city that I live in a little bit better," said Dennis.

"If you don't vote you ain't got a word to say about it," said Lexington County resident Charles Snelgrove.  "But if you vote I think you got plenty to say."

And Snelgrove was eager to share his say.  The Lexington County man says there are plenty of excuses from elected officials, but now he's looking for more action.

"I want to get us a governor who's going to do something for a change," said Snelgrove.

The passion from people like Snelgrove was rare, according to poll workers like Vivian Baker.  She says voter turnout was light, during this years primary election.

"It's been a little bit slow this time then when we had the city elections, but in all it's been pretty steady," said Baker.

"I won't tell you who I'm voting for, but I voted for the right person," said Dennis.

And Carl Dennis says he's remaining cautiously optimistic, that right person will bring positive changes.
