Severe thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding, damaging wind, small hair and dangerous lightning are impacting many areas around the Midlands.

Kershaw, Sumter and Lee counties are under a severe thunderstorms warning until 3:45 pm.  This storm cell is capable of producing damaing winds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

Richland county, with a focus on the Rocky Branch Creek area, is under a flash flood warning until 4:45pm.  The USGS river gages recorded water levels rising rapidly due to thunderstorms.

"This is not a day to be hitting local waterways for boating or swimmings,' says SkyWACH Weather Anchor Justin Kier.  "Also, flash flooding should remind folks not to drive or walk down flooded roadways."

Storms are expected to continue into the evening hours thanks to 'training.'  Training is a weather term that means thunderstorms will continue to track across the same areas.

According to Kier, the forecast is calling for more thunderstorms this weak thanks to an unstable air mass combined with daytime heating.  Today's storms are attributed to instability and an upper level disturbance passing across the sooutheast.
