COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- All four Republicans running for governor support drilling for natural gas off South Carolina's shores. But one is especially leery that drilling for oil could destroy the state's tourist-beckoning beaches, while another wants to lure clean energy companies by eliminating their taxes.

U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, state Rep. Nikki Haley and Attorney General Henry McMaster all say natural gas reserves off South Carolina's coast could be an economic boon to the state and help the country become energy independent.

But McMaster has reservations about drilling for oil offshore, saying he's worried about spills.

Bauer says he wants to eliminate corporate taxes for companies deemed green.

All four champion the expansion of nuclear energy.
