LEXINGTON COUNTY -- Lexington County deputies have arrested two Pelion residents who they say left two girls, ages two and four, home alone and locked in a bedroom that was covered in trash, feces and urine.

Twenty-four-year-old Amanda Justice and 41-year-old Joey Lucas face a bond hearing Friday morning.

They were originally arrested on a charge of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

Officials say during that arrest, the pair admitted to leaving the girls home alone.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services was called and they took emergency protective custody of the two kids.

The National Safe Kids Coalition recommends that no child under the age of 12 be left home alone.
