COLUMBIA -- The kick-off to hurricane season is just a few days away and emergency officials want to be ready for anything.
A group gathered to discuss the steps they would take if a hurricane hit South Carolina's coast.
Officials feel pretty confident about the plan they have in place.
But Emergency Management Director Ricky Platt says everyone should be prepared.
"We would ask all citizens to have a plan," Platt says. "We would ask them to, you know, it might be a good time to go visit the grandkids or grandmom, and everyone needs to prepare."
Platt also says it's key to know when to act.
"That's our leadership challenge, to decide when we move and when we don't move. We don't want to over blow it, but at the same time we have to prepare to move citizens for their safety."
Hurricane forecasters do expect an increased risk for the east coast to be slammed by a hurricane this season.
The season officially kicks off June 1.
