Beer is bringing Democrats and Republicans together. Every week while tossing back a few brewskies, political strategists are coming together for "pub politics."
On Wednesday bipartisanship was brewing in the Midlands. Political strategists Wesley Donehue and Phil Bailey, say it's a chance to discuss hot button issues while enjoying a few cold ones.
"We try to show that it doesn't have to be all hate-filled based on attacks and negative politics," said Wesley Donehue. "Some of these guys are really cool guys. Some of these senators will come and sit down and drink beer with you and chat with you."
Those chats have developed into a weekly web cast called "Pub Politics," which takes place at a different bar each week; and the public is always welcome.
Wesley Donehue, a local Republican Political Consultant is the co-founder of the online show. He along with the Director of the State Senate Democratic Caucus, Phil Bailey are looking to pour more fun into politics.
"There is a level of excitement for our guests," said Bailey. "They generally get to come down here, loosen up their tie, cut loose, enjoy a glass of beer and just have an open discussion."
Wednesday Political Lobbyist Michael Rentiers, joined the pub pair to take part in the open discussion.
The two say regardless of what side of the political aisle they're on, fun in politics is possible.
"There's nothing wrong with going to have a beer with your Senator and talking about the big issues," said Donehue.
"We decided lets get together and gets some civility back into politics and have a good discussion over beer," said Bailey.
It's an ongoing effort to make pub politics a major buzz around the Capital City.
