Block party in Newberry erupts in gunfire

NEWBERRY -- A block party in Newberry involving several hundred people ends with a shooting.

According to Newberry County Sheriff's Office, a fight broke out among several of the attendees just after 2 a.m. Saturday.  Deputies say it was then that someone opened fire into the crowd.

Six people were struck in the lower legs.  None of the injuries were life threatening.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster calls this a random shooting.
