COLUMBIA -- Columbia City Council members will hold a special meeting Monday afternoon to discuss investigation procedures involving city officials.

The meeting stems from an ongoing investigation into a car crash involving mayor-elect Steve Benjamin.

Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter says his department is capable of handling the investigation but has asked the SC Highway Patrol for assistance.

According to Attorney General Henry McMaster, city council can order police to turn over the entire investigation.

Council members will meet at 1:30 p.m Monday afternoon to discuss procedures.

WACH FOX News will bring you the very latest developments as they become available.
