LEXINGTON -- As summer grows near, students at Lexington Middle School prepare themselves for High School.  With that move, come complications in life that can lead to tragedy.

Al Odom spoke with students Wednesday as part of the Lexington Police Department's Shattered Dreams program.

Odom, who lost his son tragically to a fatal wreck involving alcohol, spoke to students about choices.

"Unfortunately the use of alcohol is very prevalent in teen society today, and what we need is some kids that are willing to say 'you know what? It's not worth it," Odom says.

Odom encourages parents to know where their kids are and what they're doing.

He says parents shouldn't be afraid of having some frank discussions with their kids about alcohol.
