DARLINGTON (AP) -- The National Weather Service says the storm that damaged homes and schools in South Carolina was a tornado.
The weather service said on Monday the greatest damage showed evidence that wind speeds reached 130 miles an hour. The widest damage path was 75 yards.
The state Emergency Management Division says 32 homes were damaged. Four of those suffered major damage or were destroyed. School officials say three schools had some damage including an elementary school that will be unusable for the remainder of the year.
The tornado knocked out power to about 1,700 customers, but most of that was restored by Monday afternoon.
Three people suffered minor injuries. The Red Cross opened one shelter Sunday night, but no one came.
