COLUMBIA -- South Carolina Republicans hope to turn out more voters in the June 8 primary by including ballot questions asking if the Legislature should fight federal health care legislation and restrain spending.
State GOP Chairman Karen Floyd said Wednesday the questions will be included to increase voter turnout and weigh the party members' feelings on the issues.
"This is an opportunity to energize voters who might not normally be energized for a primary election," Floyd says.
One question asks if the Legislature should make it illegal to force South Carolina residents to buy health insurance or participate in a health care plan against their will. The second asks if the Legislature should pass bills to limit spending growth by linking it to average income increases or gains in population and inflation.
The Legislature already is addressing both issues.
