COLUMBIA -- The two remaining candidates for Columbia's next mayor faced off against each other Tuesday night.

Steve Benjamin and Kirkman Finlay gave their platforms and tackled issues facing the city of Columbia at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

The big topics that remain in the spotlight included funding for public safety, public transportation, bringing arts into the city and luring large businesses.

"The budget, the city budget, we definately need to get that under control," says Ed Goodwin.  Goodwin voted for Steve Morrison in the general election.  "I think I'm going to decide on election day who I'm going to vote for," says the Rosewood resident.

Both candidates failed to secure 50 percent of the mayoral vote in last Tuesday's election.  Because they were the top two vote getters, they head to a run-off election in one week.

Benjamin and Finlay are striving to pick up the votes of former candidate Steve Morrison, who narrowly missed making the run-off.

They have been hitting the streets hard in their campaign efforts, especially in the Shandon area, where Morrison had a large support base.

Meanwhile, Morrison says he's not going to make an endorsement in the race.

We talked to Morrison supporters going into Tuesday's debate and they remain on the fence.
