CHARLESTON (AP) -- Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has endorsed South Carolina state Rep. Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination for governor.
Appearing in Charleston on Thursday, Romney called Haley "a bright hope for conservatism in this country. Haley campaigned for Romney during his presidential campaign.
Romney conceded that the endorsement by a former governor from another state probably won't have a big impact. The race for governor, he said, is about the candidates and their vision for South Carolina.
But he says he hopes the endorsement might make some who supported him take another look at Haley.
Attorney General Henry McMaster, U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer are also seeking the nomination.
