That's tied with the national average.
COLUMBIA -- After 120 million households received their census forms in the mail last week, the US Census Bureau says they're off to a good start when it comes to participation.
So far 13 percent of recipients have returned their forms in South Carolina. That's tied with the current national average.
In 2000, after all was said and done, South Carolina had only 65 percent of households return the information. That was down seven percent from the national average during the most recent census.
But just because the state is off to a good start, the Census Bureau says it's not time to start slacking.
They say that with a strong census return rate, the more money and representation the region will earn.
