COLUMBIA (WACH) -- USC students were evacuated from the Swearingen Engineering building Tuesday afternoon after officials detected a suspicious odor.

According to Interim Fire Cheif Aubrey Jenkins just before 11 a.m, the 2nd floor of the building was evacuated due to a spill.

Jenkins says a container holding an unidentified liquid spilled onto the floor of a classroom, but the liquid was contained to that room.

Students have been cleared to return to class.
