AIKEN -- The search is on for an inmate who escaped from a minimum-security pre-release center in Aiken.

The Department of Corrections is asking for the public's help in locating Brandon McDonald, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

McDonald was last seen on March 2 at the Lower Savannah Correctional Facility.

Officials say he may be traveling in western South Carolina between Aiken and Greenville in a green '97 Camry with South Carolina plates FFG 895.  He is suspected to be with his common-law wife, Michelle Cooper and their eight month old son.

McDonald was convicted of assault and battery in 2009.  He now faces a charge of felony escape, which carries a sentence of one 15 years in prison, while Cooper faces charges of aiding and abetting McDonald’s escape.

If you have seen McDonald or Cooper, or have additional information, you're urged to call 1-866-CRIME-SC or Text TIPSSC plus your anonymous message to CRIMES on your cell phone.
