Snow moved into northwestern South Carolina late Tuesday morning, with officials warning there could be up to four inches on the ground by the time the storm passes.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- It might be March in South Carolina, but it's also a snow day.

Snow moved into northwestern South Carolina late Tuesday morning, with officials warning there could be up to four inches on the ground by the time the storm passes.

Schools planned to close at noon in Greenville County.

Transportation officials began treating roads in the area with salt brine late Monday.

A winter storm warning was in effect until midnight Tuesday from Anderson to Spartanburg. A warning is also posted for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning for Chesterfield and Lancaster counties, where up to three inches of snow could fall.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight Tuesday from Abbeville to York counties, for up to three inches of snow. Snow was also expected around Darlington and Bennettsville.
