South Carolina Highway Patrol have been responding to accidents and stalled cars for the last twenty-four hours.  Although the roads are clear for drivers, officials want to warn drivers to be wary of black ice.  According to Lance Corporal Josef Robinson when black ice forms, it can be dangerous.
"When black ice forms a vehicle can lose traction and once you lose traction, you lose contact with the roadway and you can go into a spin and be involved in a collision."

As the temperature gets lower, water on bridges and roads will form into ice.  If you have to go out in the snowy conditions, SC State Highway Patrol want you to be safe.  Lance Corporal Robinson says, "Leave early.  Give yourself plenty of time.  Don't speed.  We want you to keep a safe distance between vehicles and wear your seatbelt."

St. Andrews resident Michael Dykes says he's seen a couple of stalled cars and vehicles left on the side of the road.  "I saw a mail truck hit a guardrail and a state trooper, trying to assist the mail truck, slid off because of the ice," he said.  Dykes said the only reason he came out of the house was to look for firewood.  Heading officials warning, Dykes says he plans on getting home early with no plans to travel anytime soon.  "I'll probably wait until it's further out in the day before I start venturing out," he said.
