COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- After the Midlands turned into a winter wonderland Friday afternoon, a good portion of the snow has melted throughout the viewing area.
The white flakes began to fall around three Friday afternoon for the southern Midlands, and then by five, WACH FOX News received reports of snowfall in every county of the Midlands, the Upstate and portions of the Pee Dee region.
SnowWACH estimates from SkyWACH Doppler Radar indicate total accumulation anywhere from 5 to 8 inches throughout the Midlands.
"It's already a sight to behold as we look out the SkyWACH Weather Center window," said SkyWACH Weather Anchor Justin Kier on Friday. "The snow has arrived in some parts of the area and will begin to invade the remainder of the Midlands."
The SkyWACH Weather Team forecasted better snowfall probabilities in the southern Midlands. Areas like southern Lexington County, southern Richland County, Calhoun County, eastern Aiken County, and northern Aiken County received the highest totals according to estimates.
The SkyWACH Weather Team emphasized caution to motorists between Friday afternoon and mid-day Saturday, but there is another chance of black ice to form Saturday night into Sunday morning as the remaining snow melts into the roadways and freezes overnight.
