NORTH MYRTLE BEACH (AP) -- Two police officers in the South Carolina coast have been fired after allegations they made vulgar, sexual remarks about co-workers and crime victims.

Multiple media outlets reported that a North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman issued a statement Thursday that police Maj. Walt Floyd and Lt. Don Repec had been fired.

Floyd was the interim director of the public safety department, replacing William Bailey, who was demoted to lieutenant for lying to city officials about the theft of his police handgun from his truck.

Repec headed the investigations division.

The statement from city spokeswoman Nicole Aiello (EYE-el-lo) did not provide details. Mayor Marilyn Hatley said the City Council stands by the decision by city manager John Smithson.

Neither officer could be reached for comment.
