LORIS (AP) -- Authorities say a South Carolina police officer was charged with criminal domestic violence after firing a gun and threatening his wife in their coastal home.
Investigators say 40-year-old Horry County police officer Nick Petrone was arrested Sunday after he became angry with his wife because she wouldn't hang out with his friends, breaking bar stools in his garage and damaging the door.
Authorities say Petrone and his wife kept arguing and he grabbed a gun and walked outside. She called 911 after hearing a gunshot.
A police report says Petrone denied firing his gun or making threats and said he broke no laws since he only damaged his own property.
Petrone has been suspended from the force without pay. He has been with Horry County police for nearly four years.
