An anonymous graduate of South Carolina State University has sent their alma mater a $90,000 gift. SCSU officials announced the donation on Wednesday. The money will go to the university's foundation and the interest earned will support future student scholarships.
According to the Office of University Marketing, this is the second time in the last six months that an anonymous graduate has donated to the University. The first gift of $250,000 was an unrestricted contribution received last August.
“With a recent decline in state appropriated funds to the University, and with possible budget cuts looming, this gift provides much needed support for our students and a wonderful start to 2010," said President George Cooper in a release. "This gift also supports the University’s mission of garnering assistance from our community stakeholders.”
Dr. Cooper also noted how much universities rely upon alumni for support. He called the endowment gift "an investment which will provide endless support for our deserving students."
