SUMMERVILLE (AP) -- A sheriff's deputy in South Carolina is on administrative leave after a shootout in which a man was killed.

Authorities say the unidentified man stepped out of a pickup truck which had been stopped by authorities on Saturday night.

Dorchester County Sheriff's Maj. John Garrison said the man drew a gun and fired at a deputy, who had ordered the man to put down the gun. Garrison said the deputy returned fire, killing the man. No deputies were hurt.

Garrison said the State Law Enforcement Division sent personnel to the scene after the shooting and is investigating. He said the investigation will include reviews of audio and video tapes made during the incident.
