JENKINSVILLE - - South Carolina Electric and Gas is set to test its siren warning system at a Fairfield County nuclear plant Tuesday at approximately 1 p.m.

SCEG has 106 sirens within a 10-mile radius of V.C. Summer Nuclear Station. The sirens exist to warn nearby residents in the event of an emergency at the plant.

The sirens will sound for one minute Tuesday. During an actual emergency the sirens would sound for three minutes without any prior notice and alert residents to tune into radio or television stations for further instructions.
