Christopher Wise, 21, is accused of carjacking a mother and her children in Prosperity and leading police on a three-county chase Thursday night.
Newberry County, SC - A Prosperity man is in jail after investigators say he carjacked a woman and her two children then led police on a chase through three counties Thursday night.
Authorities say around 9 pm Thursday Christopher Wise approached a green Ford Explorer at a Prosperity gas station and forced the people in that car out of the vehicle. Newberry County deputies say Wise pointed a gun at a mother and her children, made them get out, then drove away.
Just before midnight, authorities say officers in Spartanburg County saw the vehicle and tried to stop it. Wise reportedly led officers on a chase from Spartanburg County into Laurens County.
Officers say Wise stopped the stolen car on Interstate 26 in Laurens County, tried to carjack another vehicle, then ran into the woods when he wasn't successful.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Department and SLED brought in bloodhounds to track down Wise. During the course of that manhunt, an officer saw the Wise come out of the woods and arrested him without incident.
Wise was taken to the Laurens County Detention Center to face charges in that county. He will also face charges for the alleged carjacking in Newberry County.
