Food Lion is opening what it calls the first "LEED" grocery store in South Carolina. The store at 4730 Hard Scrabble Road, will seek a "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" Silver Certification.
Manager Brian Mills says the store features high efficiency lighting that dims lights based on natural sunlight in the store and LED lighting in frozen food cases.
Mills says they also have special parking spots for hybrid vehicles and bike racks.
It's still unclear whether the energy savings will be passed onto consumers.
