(AP) -- A top executive is discussing the future of the energy industry in South Carolina.

Clemson University says General Electric Co. CEO Jeffrey Immelt is in Greenville Tuesday to participate in a summit on renewable energy.

The summit at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research is hosted with GE Energy. It's by invitation only, but video will be broadcast via Clemson's Web site.

Officials hope the meeting will help lay groundwork for a potential renewable energy cluster. Clemson hosted U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu last week for a symposium on green energy.

Last month, Clemson announced it was getting nearly $100 million to study wind energy. Officials said the funding could lead to thousands of new jobs.
