(AP) -- FOUNTAIN INN, S.C-- A high school basketball player in South Carolina and his mother have been found shot to death in their home.

Multiple media outlets reported the player's stepfather has been arrested in the deaths at the home near Fountain Inn on Sunday.

Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols says the victims were 17-year-old Ashton Arnold and 31-year-old Amanda Chapman.

Sheriff Ricky Chastain says 32-year-old Genty O'Neil Chapman has been arrested.

Chastain says his office was called about 4 a.m. Sunday by a man who said he shot his wife and stepson and was on his way to the Fountain Inn Police Department with two other children, ages eight and 12. Chastain says the children are with Amanda Chapman's family.

Chastain says the man and woman argued before the shootings.
