Columbia leaders are considering a livestock ordinance that would allow residents to keep chickens in their backyards. Several U.S. cities including New York already have similar ordinances.
Members of Citizens for Legal Urban Chicken Keeping, known as CLUCK, say allowing chickens would make the city more progressive. Member Ryan Nevius says it's better to eat eggs from a chicken at your home, than ones bought at a store.
The ordinance would allow residents to keep up to four hens in a coop. No roosters are allowed.
City Council heard from the public at a meeting Wednesday. No one spoke against the ordinance. They'll discuss it further at their next meeting.
