Winnsboro, SC - Winnsboro Department of Public Safety chief Wayne Yates was released on bond Thursday afternoon after being charged with assault and battery.

Kershaw County sheriff's department chief deputy Keith Lewis says Yates turned himself in shortly after 4pm Thursday.

Investigators say Yates and two friends were involved in a fight early Saturday morning at a Winnsboro bar called Bubba's Place.  Yates turned himself in several days after being charged because officials say he was on vacation in Tennessee.

Yates was released on a $2,185 bond.
