JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities have seized cattle from a coastal pasture and cited the owner for mistreatment of animals.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that Charleston County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Fields says the animals were found Wednesday on James Island suffering from malnutrition.

Deputies took two bulls, six cows and four calves.

Fields says the owner, 63-year-old George Gillard, has been cited with an animal care code violation. There was no telephone listing for him.
