President Barack Obama delivered a back-to-school speech earlier today, targeting K through 12th graders.  Students across the nation tuned in to hear that special message.  Many local schools, including Kershaw County's North Central High School, took part in the President's effort to teach students to dream big and work hard.

Victoria Jones and other 12th graders at North Central received a lesson from the President Tuesday afternoon.

"I know I can do it," said Jones.  "I want to be as big as he is; I want to see myself on TV."

The fact that his message was televised in schools drew criticism from Obama opponents.  But the young people watching Tuesday didn't have that on their classroom agenda.

"It inspires you to do better and try your hardest," said Senior Newman Bair.

It inspired them to take responsibility for their future.  Some of the students don't know what lies ahead, but they do know the final year of high school is not the end; it's just the beginning of endless possibilities.

"You can become anything you want to if you just put your mind to it," said Jones.

Overall the students say they accept President Obama's challenge to work hard.  And they're tuned in to what it takes to make a dream become reality.
