More than a week ago, a shooting outside the night spot left five people wounded.

The increase in violent crime on Club Essence's property has made it look like the establishment was becoming a target for problem and cast them in a bad spotlight.

To combat that image, the owners held a family fun day event Saturday to take a stand against violence.

Annette of 247 Entertainment speaks out and says, "Club Essence saying no to violence.... If you change the atmosphere, and you know that we're not upholding violence, we're actually condoning it, then we're not going to have it."

She says the club has been open for seven years, and this was considered the only major incident.

Local churches, musicians, and residents came out Saturday to support the club's mission of taking a stand against violence.

For Club Essence, the event is one step forward in a new direction.
