One Midlands community celebrates freedom. The Reid Chapel AME Church held their annual "Juneteenth" celebration. It was a chance for folks to remember the ending to slavery, throughout the United States.
Horseback riding was one of the highlights of the church's celebration. An event that celebrates the emancipation of African American slaves.
"It started in Texas and it has worked its way across the country," said participant John Thomas.
It has also worked its way into the Greenview neighborhood where church members say it's not just about them.
"It is a community-wide event not just for members and friends of Reid Chapel," said Thomas.
Folks enjoyed good food, fellowship and spending time with friends and family. Organizers say the event is a chance to celebrate the past and present.
"We had the junior Buffalo soldiers come out," said participant Tiffany James. "They come out every year and do a presentation."
This marks the fourth year for the "Juneteenth" celebration.
