Newberry College mourns loss of student athlete

NEWBERRY, SC -- Newberry College is mourning the loss of a student athlete tonight.

Investigators say 23-year-old Kendrick Johnson drowned in Anderson Friday night.

He was swimming at his girlfriend's parent's home at the time.

The coroner's office says his death was an accident.

Johnson played basketball at Newberry and was from Orangeburg.

He would have been a senior this fall.
