Travel to certain areas across the Midlands and you're certain to encounter homes that need repairs; or frankly, that need to be rebuilt. Although a few minor repairs can make one big bill. With the current economy, many just can't afford it. That's why some folks in Chapin are reaching out to the community to help those in need in your town.

People work and volunteer their time for one reason, to do good works. Good Works is a non-profit organization that started seven-years ago to repair and rebuild homes for the needy. The organization has become a lot more than just repairing homes.

"We can't help everyone but we can love everyone unconditionally," says Sue Madden.

Madden is a founder of Good Works. She says need doesn't discriminate.

"We're seeing people you would never dream of because of our economy," says Madden.

Anybody can come who needs a little bit of help or if you want to help others.

"This operation is all about the volunteers," says Madden.

She admits sometimes the need can be overwhelming. That's why her motto is to live everyday like it's Christmas - giving back and loving everyone.

"It's not about the poorest of the poor, but reaching out and loving your neighbor and we're all neighbors," says Madden.

When people need more than just love, Madden and the volunteer team have faith to expect miracles will happen.

"I'm not expecting to look outside and see someone walk on water, but everyday a family gets a refrigerator or a door is delivered. Miracles happen here every single day," says Madden.

In just the short seven-years Good Works has been open, there's an entire book of stories from people they've helped. The organization received the Angel Award in 2007. The Angel Award is South Carolina's top honor for non-profit charities. Good Works received the honor because 98% of the donations the organization receives goes toward their mission.

For more information about Good Works, call their Chapin office at 803-345-2030 or visit the office at 118 Saint Peters Church Rd.
