MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's naval museum on Charleston Harbor is launching a $400,000 advertising campaign in hopes of boosting the number of visitors.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant hopes the new marketing will have a worldwide reach on the Internet.

The campaign starts in July and includes radio and TV ads in Columbia, Web site banner ads at travel sites, new local billboards and $1 off coupons in a Myrtle Beach publication.

The museum that features the aircraft carrier Yorktown and several other warships had 229,000 visitors last year. Tourism and business development director Dick Trammell says attendance is down about 5 percent this year.

Trammell says the museum hopes to make connections with the group tour industry.
