9:24am, On February 23, 2009, the Fire Department responded to a fire on 608 Brockington Street. There was black smoke coming from the eaves of the house, and the fire department made entry into the residence and discovered the fire was coming from the attic area. The Sumter police department went inside to try to see the cause of the fire.
February 24, 2009 at 9:27pm the fire department had responded to another fire on 606 Brockenton Street that is next to 608 Brockton Street. When the fire department arrived to the scene, there were flames coming from the roof and windows in the rear of the residence. After the fire were extinguished detectives with the Sumter Police department, Arson Investigators, and the Fire department to investigate the cause.
After further investigation by the Sumter Police Department and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division it was determined that Mr. Isaac Johnson, the owner of the duplex, is responsible for the setting of the Fires at 606 and 608 Brockenton Street Two warrants were obtained for Arson in the 2nd degree and Mr. Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center.
