In Sumter County, deputies need help finding a killer. A fight happened just after 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. It left one man dead and his sister hurt. Investigators say the gunman is 27-year-old Jeron Cook. The victim is William Blackwell. He was shot in the arm and back.

Crime tape surrounds the house on West Patricia Drive where the murder happened. Sumter County investigators say Jeron Cook shot and killed 24-year-old William Blackwell. And Cook didn't stop there. Investigators say he then turned the gun on Blackwell's sister, Audja, shooting her from behind.

"We want to ensure the family that we are going to do everything we can to apprehend this individual as quickly as possible," said Sumter County Lieutenant David Florence.

Florence is the lead investigator.

"Based on the information that we've received at this time, it was an argument over a girl," said Florence.

A young 17-year-old girl. Florence says Cook is no stranger to law enforcement.

"He has priors of assault," said Florence. "I think there's a strong-armed robbery charge. And several drug charges that may be pending on him at this time."

The coroner pronounced William Blackwell dead at the scene. Doctors at Toumey Regional Medical Center treated his sister, Audja, and released her.

"She is home at this time," said Florence. "And the family they are grieving, which is understandable. And we sympathize with the family."

A family trying to understand why their love one is gone.

Cook faces murder and assault charges.

If you have information that might help investigators call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Cook is 27 years old, 5’ 10" tall and weighs 145 pounds.

He should be considered to be "armed and dangerous".
